.223 Wylde

.223 Wylde is a hybrid rifle chamber designed to allow .22 caliber barrels to safely fire both .223 Remington and 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition. While the cartridge dimensions of both rounds are the same, 5.56 NATO loads produce pressures in excess of the .223 Remington specifications. The 5.56 chamber has angular differences that allow higher pressures, so .223 Remington can be fired from a 5.56 chamber safely, but with reduced accuracy. The Wylde design allows both calibers to be safely fired with good accuracy.

Are .223 Wylde barrels better?
223 Wylde barrel is capable of handling those hotter 5.56 NATO rounds without the accompanying pressure problems as well as handling the . 223 Remington bullets that give you much better accuracy.

Is it safe to shoot 5.56 in 223 Wylde?
223 Wylde is more accurate than 5.56 NATO. And yes, it can fire both . 223 and 5.56 NATO completely safely.
