What Comes with an Assembled Upper?
Many firearms have one receiver or frame that “receives” all of the other components of the platform. Sporting rifles like AR-15s have two - an upper and a lower receiver.
If you’re completing a home-built rifle, you’ll need to complete an upper from separate parts or invest in an upper parts kit or a complete upper receiver assembly.
Most assembled uppers will come with:
● The upper receiver
● A barrel
● A handguard
● A gas system (gas block and tube)
Some of ours also contain:
● A forward assist
● Ejection port cover
● Charging handle
● A muzzle device
You will also need a bolt carrier group to complete an upper, and some upper assemblies do not come with charging handles, ejection port covers, or forward assists, so read the included parts selection carefully.
What Else Do I Need?
In addition to an assembled upper, you will need a lower receiver and a complete lower parts kit that contains all of the remaining parts and hardware you need to assemble a functioning rifle.
It is important to note that not all parts kits contain the same components. For example, many parts kits do not contain muzzle devices, bolt carrier groups or magazines, so you will need to purchase them separately and ensure that they are compatible with the rifle you are building, as well as with its cartridge. For example, you need to ensure that the mag and barrel you select agree on the cartridge - such as 5.56 NATO or .300 AAC Blackout.
Please also be aware that it is illegal in some jurisdictions to possess or alter an 80% lower receiver. Consult a lawyer before you begin such a project to ensure you are in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
