Comparing Beretta 92 and Glock 17

Mar 17th 2021

For many shooters, it is a difficult task to choose between Glock 17 and Beretta 92, but you need to know the truth that both are equally good choices. The best part being the service lives of both pistols include multiple thousands of rounds, both are capable of incredible accuracy, both are long-lasting, and both aren’t even that expensive.

Usually used in the police departments, when ordered in bulk, the two preferential choices remain the 92 and the 17. Now, are you wondering what sets one apart over the other?

The Beretta 92
It’s that one proven handgun on the battlefield and in the streets in police service worldwide, known for its accuracy and reliability.

The Beretta 92 is an old-school gun that has been a perennial favorite of police officers and militaries worldwide ever since, serving with distinction in both roles.

The 92 uses design elements of the Walther P38 including the open-top slide, locking block barrel design, and the control layout, including the flip-down slide-mounted safety. In the 92, you can also find a 15-round double-stack box magazine based on that of the BHP.

But 92 is somewhere difficult to conceal easily, making it difficult to carry for most civilian carriers.

The Glock 17
It was with the coming of Glock 17 from where the poly striker craze began. 17+1 rounds of 9mm, weighing in at just under 26 ounces unloaded and without the complicated manual of arms endemic to double- and single-action pistols. Cock, point, and shoot; repeat. On the other hand, it has a 1.18-inch width and is comparatively lighter; making it easier to carry and also conceal, which makes it popular full-size guns for regular use.

Also, it is one of the best all-around pistols ever devised. It is a popular choice of service guns in existence for police services, as well as civilian carriers and enthusiasts.

Beretta 92 v/s Glock 17
Some people like the hard, long trigger pull shot to ward against possible accidental discharges, which Glocks have a complicated relationship with. Also, Glocks tend to "point" a little more naturally and soak up recoil very well. Also, many prefer a gun that can be put on "safe."

Comparatively, Beretta is more manual of arms than that. The controls of the Beretta are not totally ambidextrous. You might face another issue with the safety switch. Glocks have no external safety, and all controls save the takedown tabs can be operated one-handed. In the Beretta, the safety/decocker located on the slide.

Beretta has heavyweight, controls and fat grip that can be at times troublesome, but the Glock can carry two more rounds per magazine and is easier to carry. So, if lightweight is your choice, then go for Glocks.
