Micro Conversion Kit (MCK) FAQs: Asked and Answered

Micro Conversion Kit (MCK) FAQs: Asked and Answered

Posted by MCS GEAR UP on Dec 7th 2023

For those of you that shoot a handgun and are looking for a modular platform that can nearly convert it to carbine-style handling, what you’re looking for is an MCK, or Micro Conversion Kit, produced by Command Arms Accessories (CAA).

Here’s what you should know about them.

What Is an MCK?

The CAA MCK (Micro Conversion Kit) is a lightweight, sturdy platform made of aluminum and polymer that serves as a conversion kit for a specific model of handgun.

Sort of like a chassis, the MCK is designed to accept compatible handguns, converting them into carbine style platforms that offers improved handling and expandability.

Are There Any Benefits to Customizing with an MCK?

There are several. Among the most important of these is that an MCK adds weight, grip, and attachment points to the platform.

This enables easier handling and allows the platform to be braced against the shoulder, fostering greater accuracy, even at extended ranges, beyond 100 yards.

The heavier nature and more secure handling of an MCK also produces less recoil and muzzle flip, enabling faster, more accurate follow up shots.

Plus, they are 100% made in the United States.

Does an MCK Require Any Modifications to the Firearm?

For firearms with which they are compatible, CAA Micro Conversion Kits not only require no permanent modifications, they require no modifications at all.

Are Micro Conversion Kits Expandable?

Micro Conversion Kits are exceptionally expandable and most feature sling attachment points as well as rail sections to which you can add standard Pic rail accessories, like optics.

We also carry a full range of custom-made MCK accessories, including but not limited to integral front flashlights, lasers, red dot sights, slings, thumb rests, charging handles, brass catchers, glass breakers, and much more.

Their expandability is one of the things that makes them so attractive to so many different shooters, as they vastly improve the utility and customizability of many different handguns.

What Is the Difference Between Gen 1 and Gen 2 MCKs?

There are several differences between Generation 1 and Generation 2 Micro Conversion Kits although these are not all immediately recognizable.

For instance:

  • The Gen 2 offers an extended stabilizer which allows the MCK to be fired while folded and locked. The new stabilizer is backwards-compatible with Gen 1 MCKs.
  • The rear door of the Gen 2 is angled back an additional 15°, making it easier to insert and remove the handgun.
  • The Gen 2 features an improved charging handle which delivers enhanced contact area with the rear of the handgun slide.
  • There is an aluminum top Pic rail over the top of the Gen 2.
  • The Gen 2 has an improved spare magazine holder (actuated by a mag catch and release).
  • The Gen 2 is suppressor-friendly (and can accommodate suppressor-height sights).

Are MCKs Compatible with More Than One Handgun?

CAA Micro Conversion Kits are compatible with several different models of handgun. Some of the models for which MCKs are made include:

  • Gen 3, 4, and 5 Glock 17, 19, 19x, 22, 23, 31, 32, and 45 pistols
  • Glock 20 and 21 pistols
  • Sig Sauer 320 pistols
  • S&W M&P 1.0 and 2.0 (both full-size and compact models
  • Select P80 (Polymer80) pistols

Moreover, in some instances, one model will fit more than one handgun.

Does an MCK Need to Be Cleaned?

Just like your handgun itself, the MCK you use with it should also be periodically cleaned. CAA recommends you clean your Micro Conversion Kit after 300 rounds.

Cleaning the exterior is simple. Wipe it down with a damp microfiber cloth and use a little soap and water to remove any excess fouling deposits as needed.

The interior, front vent, and barrel shroud will need a little additional attention. Use a soft brush like a nylon cleaning brush or a toothbrush to loosen any fouling between the front vents, inside the MCK, and around the inside and outside of the barrel shroud.

Scrub gently with warm soap and water to loosen any fouling deposits and make sure to fully dry the MCK before using it again.

Do not use any abrasives on your Micro Conversion Kit as these will damage the finish and/or operation of the unit.

Do They Work with Handguns That Have Manual Safeties?

CAA micro conversion kits do not work with handguns that have manual safeties.

I Removed and Reinserted My Pistol and Now It’s Inaccurate. What Happened?

If you remove your handgun from an MCK and then re-insert it, the zero will shift and the platform will need to be re-sighted.

I’m Getting Stovepipe Jams. What Could Be Causing This?

If you’re getting a lot of stovepipe jams, first make sure that the handgun is inserted properly into the platform. Make sure that the firearm is inserted level and straight, and not locked in at an angle.

If you have an optic mounted above the ejection port, move the optic further forward (or back, if possible). In some instances, the ejecting brace might hit the optic, causing the jam.
