Forget accessories for a second. Just upgrading your favorite handgun with a micro conversion kit is in and of itself revolutionary.
These chassis-style platforms will convert your handgun into something more akin to a carbine, enabling surer handling, better recoil control, and superior accuracy, even at extended ranges.
And, they require no modifications to the handgun - permanent or temporary.
But one of the great things about MCKs is that, great as they are without accessorization, they offer numerous attachment points and are compatible with a wide range of specific micro conversion kit accessories that can vastly improve functionality, handling, and accuracy.
This post will put the spotlight on one of the best of them, if not the single best one out there - the Crimson Trace MCK red dot sight.
Let’s talk a little bit about what this RDS for MCK platforms offers.
Enter the Crimson Trace MCK Red Dot Sight
The Crimson Trace red dot sight for micro conversion kits is a game changer, and far superior to conventional optics, like scopes, and iron sights.
This red dot sight includes a riser which allows for full co-witness with your iron sights, is built in a durable housing and features a multi-coated lens that reduces glare and offers a clear sight picture in all conditions.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Faster, More Accurate Shots
The main selling point of a red dot sight, not just this red dot sight, is that it offers faster, more accurate shots (and follow-up shots) because red dots offer reflexive shooting.
Shoot more accurately than you would with iron sights and acquire targets more rapidly than you would with a scope.
A Clearer Sight Picture
The very nature of a red dot sight produces a clearer, brighter, more open sight picture. When shooting over iron sights, the gun itself obstructs part of the sight picture; with a scope you can only shoot aiming with one eye.
A red dot sight flips that paradigm and enables you to shoot reflexively, with both eyes open. Moreover, the design of a red dot keeps a clear, open sight picture and you can see the whole target through the lens.
Freedom from Parallax Distortion and Sight Radius
Two of the biggest advantages of red dot sights is that they don’t suffer the issues of parallax distortion (faced by scopes) or sight radius (an issue with iron sights).
First let’s talk about parallax distortion. This issue occurs within scopes when a user looks through the scope at an angle. This distorts the sight picture, making the reticle appear to cover an area of the target that it isn’t actually covering. Shooting with a parallax error can result in a wide miss.
As for sight radius, this refers to the distance between the front and rear sights. The shorter the sight radius, the less forgiving the platform is; if the sights are not perfectly in line, it will look as though the sights are trained on a portion of the target on which they are not; this is similar to parallax, and when it occurs, it will result in a miss.
Red dot sights are not prey to parallax; the dot doesn’t move even when you shift your mount or look through the sight at an angle. This makes it easier to shoot, accurately and reflexively, over a red dot sight.
Suitability in All Light Conditions
Red dot sights are better in low light conditions because red doesn’t photobleach the rhodopsin in your eye, preserving your sight picture.
Green dot sights are better in bright light conditions because it is easier to see a green dot with bright ambient overhead lighting, or in daylight.
This red dot is both a red dot and a green dot and there are 14 different brightness settings - 7 for red and 7 for green - making it suitable not only in bright daylight but also in perfect darkness.
Long-Lasting and Tough
This red dot sight is protected by an aircraft-grade aluminum housing that is durable, corrosion-resistant, and physically tough. The RDS itself is shock, dust, fog, impact and recoil resistant.
It’s also incredibly long-lasting; powered by a single CR2032 battery, it boasts 1.3 years of battery life.
Back It Up with Backup Sights
Even though this thing is long-lasting, it’s not one or the other. Thanks to the riser it comes with, it offers full co-witness with your iron sights - which means you can keep them and shoot over either as needed. Set it up for absolute co-witness and if the red dot does die on you, you can just revert to your irons.
