Common Questions About Micro Conversion Kits

Posted by MCS GEAR UP on Jul 15th 2024

Ever heard of a micro conversion kit, AKA an MCK or a CAA MCK? Chances are that you have if you’re here looking for information. Here are some of the top questions surrounding them.

What Is a Micro Conversion Kit for?

A micro conversion kit is a chassis-like device that will accept a handgun and thereby convert it into something that is more akin to a carbine or an SBR than a handgun. They are expandable, with numerous attachment points, and designed to be fired from the shoulder, increasing accuracy at extended ranges while combating recoil and muzzle flip.

What Is the Purpose of a Pistol Conversion Kit?

The purpose of a pistol conversion kit, of which MCKs are a class, is as was described above: to convert the pistol into a carbine style platform that is more stable, more accurate, and more expandable.

How Do I Use a Micro Conversion Kit?

One of the great things about MCKs is that they are easy to use. Basically, you open a door in the bottom of the platform, insert the pistol, slide it forward until it’s in place, and then close the door. You will need to sight it in each time you replace it, though, as it will not hold a zero between removal and reinsertion.

Are There MCK Accessories?

There are in fact many different MCK accessories that are expressly designed for these platforms, including but not limited to optics like red dot sights, weapon-mounted lights, laser sights, glass breakers, slings, brass catchers, thumb rests, charging handles, and much more.

Do I Need to Modify My Gun?

You do not need to make any modifications to your handgun, either permanent or temporary. MCKs are designed to accept compatible platforms just as they are.

What Guns Can Fit an MCK?

Micro conversion kits are designed for compatibility with select Glock, Sig Sauer, Canik, Taurus, Springfield, Smith & Wesson, CZ, and Polymer80 (P80) handguns.

What’s the Difference Between Gen 3 and Gen 4 Micro Roni?

The Gen 3 Micro Roni had different models to accommodate different sizes and calibers of handguns. The muzzle shrouds of the Gen 4 Micro Roni are adjustable, along with captive cocking handles and do not require a slide release.

What Is the Difference Between an MCK and a Roni?

Both platforms are effectively just conversion kits to transform pistols into carbine-style platforms. The main difference between them is price, with the Roni being the slightly more affordable option of the two. A micro conversion kit also might be slightly more expandable.

What Are the Advantages of Using an MCK?

There are numerous advantages to using an MCK that is compatible with your handgun. Converting your handgun with a micro conversion kit will add mass and expand the surface area of the platform, while also resulting in a footprint that is designed to be mounted and fired from the shoulder. As a result, they handle better, help fight muzzle flip and recoil, and for most shooters, can positively impact accuracy at extended ranges at 100 and in some cases even to 200 yards.

Is an MCK Actually Practical?

That depends on what your purposes are in getting one. They certainly can be, if you intend to expand the platform and want an affordable, un-invasive way to improve accuracy, expandability, and handling.

Does a Micro Roni Increase Accuracy?

At close ranges, you will experience little to no difference. So if you routinely shoot at around 25 yards, don’t expect a big difference in performance. At extended ranges, say, 50 yards and beyond, however, the effects will become noticeable.

What Turns a Glock into a Rifle?

Kind of a weird question, so we’re only including it here because it gets searched enough to show up in the “People Also Ask” section of Google. An MCK won’t “turn” a Glock into a rifle, but it will convert it into a sort of a carbine-like platform which will operate similarly.

Is There an MCK for a 1911?

Yes, good news for those who like to shoot 1911s and clones, which are some of the most popular handguns in the world. There is a Gen 2 MCK that is compatible with 1911 platforms.

Where Are Micro Conversion Kits Made?

The Command Arms Accessories (CAA) MCK is the world’s most popular micro conversion kit and is made entirely in the United States.
