Got a Taurus G2C? If so, this short post will take you through some of the best upgrades you can make for the platform.
Why the Taurus G2C Is an Underrated Handgun
Like so many opinions in the world of firearms, impressions on the G2C are mixed. Despite the arguments of the haters, most would agree that the G2C offers incredible value at its price point.
Yes, it’s a cheap gun. You can get them usually for around $300, maybe less if you’re a smart shopper. But the truth of the matter is that they are reliable, compact, ergonomic, and come outfitted with numerous selling points such as a rail under the barrel, a striker block, a trigger safety, and a loaded chamber indicator.
Plus, they’re reliable, conceal and carry easily, are fairly lightweight, and offer an attractive 12 round standard capacity.
But could the Taurus G2C be made better? Absolutely, with these upgrades.
Best Taurus G2C Upgrades
If you’re in the market for some upgrades for your G2C, start here.
The Barrel
It’s been said that the stock G2C barrel is as accurate as most shooters are. That is probably true, and the stock matte stainless steel barrel is nothing bad. But you could also do a lot to improve it.
For instance, there are fluted aftermarket barrels that are both lighter in weight and which aid in dissipation. You can also get a threaded barrel, which greatly expands the functionality of the platform.
On that note…
Add a Compensator
If you reconfigure your G2C with a threaded barrel, you can then add a compensator compatible with it.
If you’re unfamiliar, compensators, also referred to as comps and sometimes as muzzle brakes, as special muzzle devices that alter the way in which gasses are ported at the muzzle.
The purpose here is to cut back on felt recoil, and they do, in a big way. Compensated handguns can experience as much as a 50% reduction in recoil and muzzle flip, enabling faster, more accurate follow up shots.
The Sights
The stock iron sights on the G2C aren’t even iron at all - they’re plastic. With that said, they’re OK, and just OK. Plastic sights are cheap, and though they are adjustable, they aren’t all that durable.
Besides durability, they’re just so-so. Upgrading to real G2C iron sights would be an upgrade in its own right, but you know what else you can do? Upgrade to fiber optic sights that are better in the dark, or even better, get actual night sights that glow in the dark, giving you the edge in low-light environments, if you carry your G2C defensively.
The Recoil Spring
There’s nothing inherently wrong with the stock recoil spring of your G2C, but you could make it a lot better with a stronger spring rated to more cycles.
The main advantage here will be snappier cycling and more efficient feeding. Since this is one of the first things that wears out on any handgun, it’s a good idea to upgrade it ahead of time anyway.
Add a WML and an Optic
One of the big selling points of the G2C, especially considering its price point, is that it has a bit of rail just underneath the barrel.
That’s perfect for outfitting the gun with a WML, or a weapon-mounted light, which can give you a big advantage in the dark. You know the expression: what you can’t see can kill you. With a WML, you’ll have the advantage.
The G2C’s slide is not optics ready the way it stands, but if you remove the rear sight, you can either install an optic or an adapter plate that will enable you to do so, giving you the ability to shoot reflexively.
Get an MCK for Your Taurus G2C
One more upgrade for your G2C which will significantly improve the utility of the platform, though it will completely change the footprint - get an MCK compatible with it.
An MCK, or a micro conversion kit, is a chassis-style platform that enables you to convert your handgun into something that handles more like a carbine.
Granted, with one, you will lose concealability as well as the utility of some of the upgrades already mentioned here, but most shooters agree that with an MCK, handling and recoil are both substantially improved, and on top of that, they can shoot more accurately at extended ranges.
If that were not enough, we’re saying this counts as a Taurus G2C upgrade because it requires no modifications whatsoever to the handgun. You just insert the G2C, lock it in place, and get to shooting.
Plus, on top of that, there are numerous mounting points on an MCK that are perfect for outfitting with some of the things mentioned here, such as sights, lights, and optics.
An MCK compatible with your G2C is just one way to take the handgun from good to great.
