Congratulations - you’ve just gotten a new CAA MCK compatible with your favorite handgun. These are among the most successful and effective micro conversion kits in the industry. Compatible with a wide range of handguns, they do not require any modifications whatsoever and can be installed and set up in minutes, with only basic tools (and in some cases, with no tools).
Here’s what you need to know about MCK setup and sight-in.
MCK Setup
For the purposes of this article we are going to assume you are working with a CAA MCK that is compatible with the model of handgun you intend to install in it. Do not attempt to install a handgun that is not compatible with it.
On the left side of the MCK, there is a muzzle shroud adjustment with two positions; 17 (front) and 19 (rear). The 17 position is for full-size handguns and the 19 position is for compact handguns. Make sure the muzzle shroud is in the correct position before attempting to install your handgun. Refer to your owner’s manual if you have any questions about this.
Once you’ve ensured that the MCK muzzle shroud is in the right position (or adjusted it, refer to your MCK owner’s manual) then you can push and hold the locking button located on the rear left side of the MCK chassis. This will release the insertion hatch, which you must then lower and pull towards the rear, opening the chassis.
Next, pull the charging handle to the rearmost position. Clear your handgun and insert it muzzle forward and upward at a slight angle. Ensure that the serrations in the slide of your handgun align with the corresponding serrations in the MCK’s charging handle so that it engages once installed.
You will hear a click when the slide engages the charging handle. Do not attempt to slide the handgun forward in the chassis until the slide has engaged the charging handle.
Once you have the serrations of the slide aligned with the serrations of the charging handle, slide the handgun forward until the handgun extraction button clicks. The muzzle of the handgun must slide forward directly against the barrel shroud in the forwardmost position. Do not proceed unless the handgun’s muzzle is straight and in line with the barrel shroud.
With the handgun inserted, fully forward and aligned with the muzzle shroud, close the insertion door and push it forward until it clicks and locks on the locking pin. Do not operate the MCK unless the locking button is extended out and clicks.
At this point, your MCK should be ready to function, but if you have any questions, refer to your MCK owner’s manual.
MCK Sight-in
Once you’ve got your mico conversion kit set up, you can sight it in.
If using iron sights:
- Choose a range at which you want to sight the MCK in.
- Fire three shots at a single spot on the target.
- Observe where the group clustered.
- Move the rear sight in the opposite direction from where the group fell. For instance, if the group clustered high and to the right, move the MCK’s rear sight to the left and lower the elevation. This will bring your point of aim more in line with the point of impact.
- After adjusting the rear sight, fire three more rounds at the target and observe. Continue to adjust the rear sight in the manner described until you are satisfied with the level of accuracy achieved.
If using an optic (red dot, scope, etc.)
- Choose a range at which you want to sight the MCK in.
- Fire three shots at a single spot on the target.
- Observe where the group clustered.
- Move the reticle or red dot towards the point of impact, to align the point of aim. For instance, if your shots fell to the left, adjust the windage to the left until the reticle or red dot appears to float over the group.
- Fire three more shots and continue making adjustments in the manner described until you are satisfied.
Remember, you don’t have to settle for just one sighting option on your micro conversion kit. We offer a wide range of MCK accessories including optics and flip-up backup iron sights that can both be installed on the same MCK.
Good advice is to install offset iron sights that you can run as a redundant backup to your scope or red dot if you ever get caught in the dark or your batteries die. Just remember you will need to sight in both separately.
