Things Real Shooters Have Noticed About Micro Conversion Kits

Things Real Shooters Have Noticed About Micro Conversion Kits

Posted by MCS GEAR UP on Jun 2nd 2025

It’s no secret that CAA Micro Conversion Kits (MCKs) are among the best in the industry, compatible with a wide range of popular handguns, requiring no modifications, and vastly improving handling, ergonomics, expandability, recoil control, and even accuracy at intermediate ranges.

But at a certain point, if you’re thinking about putting good money into one of these, you might want to hear what other shooters who have actually shot them have to say.

Here are some of the top takeaways.

It Shoots Smoothly, Even Under Heavy Fire

The whole CAA MCK is built really solidly, and one of the chief benefits is that it engages the slide of your pistol very securely. Consequently, the thing shoots smoothly, fluidly, reliably and accurately, even during periods of sustained intense fire.

It Packs More Than a Pic Rail Over the Top

Micro conversion kits have a full-length Picatinny rail over the top of the platform, which is perfect for mounting optics like a red dot sight, but they are also perfect for backup iron sights, including offsets, which can be used as a failsafe in case your RDS is ever obstructed by moisture or dust or the batteries die.

But an MCK will offer much more, and includes Pic rail sections on both the right and left sides of the platform, perfect for mounting other MCK accessories.

Some Come with Integral Front Flashlights

There are flashlight MCK accessories you can buy and add to the rails on either side of the platform, but some also come with integral front flashlights.

That offers a lot of value not only because it keeps the rest of your rail space open but, as you might have heard before, “what you can’t see can kill you.” The platform that has a light integrated, or at least has that capacity, is at an advantage.

They Are Pistol-Specific

Pistol-Specific

While CAA micro conversion kits are compatible with a wide range of popular pistols, real shooters have been quick to note that each model is pistol specific. Don’t expect to get one for your favorite Glock and then be able to take the Glock out and swap it with a Smith & Wesson. You’ll need a separate MCK for each handgun you want to convert.

There’s a Slot for a Spare Mag

Don’t settle for a conversion kit that doesn’t have space specifically carved out for a spare magazine; CAA MCK conversion kits come with a space to hold a spare magazine in reserve so you never run out of ammo on the range.

Shooters Have Commented on the Comfort

If you get a model with a side-folding brace, which is not quite a real stock, you might expect the platform not to be the most comfortable, but most shooters comment otherwise.

In fact, not only is the brace fairly ergonomic, but the forward hand grips improve comfort and control of the platform. Accessorize with MCK accessories like thumb rests and it will be nearly as ergonomic as a real carbine.

They Fit Better Than They Look

You might not be able to tell this from pictures, but the CAA MCK is actually pretty small. That said, it shoulders and handles well, and shooters have commented that it doesn’t feel small when you’re shooting it.

They Virtually Eliminate Recoil

The recoil produced by most (but not all) handgun cartridges is pretty low to begin with, and despite the fact that these conversion kits are not at all heavy, they basically eliminate recoil. More than one shooter has commented that it’s practically impossible to feel any appreciable recoil when running one.

They’re Accurate

Accurate

Shooters have tested micro conversion kits at intermediate ranges - like 100 yards or so, which is not intermediate objectively but definitely is for a pistol. It performs stellarly. It seriously improves your ability to steadily aim and fire a handgun. Enough talk. If you don’t believe it, try it.

They’re Versatile

Because there are so many different MCK accessories available for them and so many attachment points, there’s a lot you can do with a micro conversion kit in terms of customizations.

Even if you don’t customize them, they are practical for range training, for competition (where permitted), for sport shooting, and for a ton of defensive applications, including as a home defense carbine or as a truck gun.

They Can Be a Great Upgrade for a Gun You Might Rarely Use

If there’s a gun in your safe that you hardly ever use, and you’re looking for a way to get more out of it, consider getting a CAA MCK that’s compatible with it. It’s better than leaving it to collect dust and cobwebs in the safe.
