Nothing against your stock Glock slide. It’s good enough. But like many stock parts, there are always ways you can improve them.
Here are just a few of the benefits you stand to reap from an investment in an upgraded Glock slide compatible with your current model. Here are just a few of them - check the following Glock slide replacement model for specifics that are covered here.
4140 Nitrided Barrels
Among the new Glock slide kits that we sell here, many are made with 4140 stainless steel barrels treated with a black nitride finish (this depends on model).
This alloy is a high-strength, surprisingly corrosion resistant alloy that needs minimal maintenance, especially when you introduce the fact that they are also nitrided.
The black nitride doesn’t just look slick, it is slick - literally. Black nitride has a very low coefficient of friction that resists fouling adhesion and makes them very easy not just to clean, but to keep clean.
Ready for Muzzle Devices
Some of these new Glock slide kits come complete with threaded barrels, with thread protectors. This gives you the flexibility to outfit your favorite Glock pistol with a compatible muzzle device.
The thread protector adds value while you have nothing else installed, but skip that in favor of either a compensator or a suppressor.
A compensator will cut felt recoil by as much as 50% (depending on a few factors) without adversely affecting shot power. This can enable faster, more accurate follow up shots and more confident shooting with less fatigue.
As for a suppressor, it may be an NFA item, and it will change the footprint, weight, and handling of your Glock, but there are tons of good reasons to suppress a handgun.
On top of the fact that a suppressor will help protect your hearing, a suppressor will help cut recoil while adding a little power in terms of FPS to your shot.
Outfitted with Night Sights
Some of these new Glock slide kits are outfitted with tritium night sights that enable faster target acquisition and more accurate shot placement, even in the dark.
Better yet, whereas a WML can betray your position, Glock night sights will not. This gives you a double advantage; the ability to remain concealed while also boosting your ability to connect with a target.
On top of that, tritium night sights have a long half-life in excess of a decade and they will never need batteries - which means when the lights go out, you will automatically be prepared.
Optics, Your Way
Some of these Glock slide kits come with an aluminum RMR plate cover. The real value here is in what’s underneath, as you can remove the plate cover and install an RMR-pattern optic on the slide, should you so choose.
Some red dot sights are also useful for co-witness with your iron sights, enabling a backup failsafe as well as more than one sighting option, for greater confidence and proficiency.
Plus, having a red dot sight on your slide enables faster, more intuitive shooting as it frees you from the issue of sight radius, and you can shoot from odd angles and uncomfortable positions.
That freedom and flexibility can improve your confidence and accuracy, especially if you ever find yourself in a situation in which that really matters.
Precision Cut Outs: Lighter Weight, Snappier Cycling, Better Barrel Heat Dissipation
These Glock slides are made with precision cutouts, which lighten the overall mass of the gun, but which critically lighten the reciprocating mass - that is, the mass that moves during cycling.
Reciprocating mass is one of the key factors that determines felt recoil, and the higher it is, the higher the felt recoil will be, holding all else equal.
These cutouts lighten that mass, which results in snappier, faster cycling and proportionally diminished recoil. This slide, paired with a compensator, can take a big chunk out of felt recoil.
Then of course there is the fact that the ports increase the surface area of the slide and also improve ventilation to the barrel.
This feature can help increase the heat dissipation potential of these slide kits, keeping your barrels cool - which extends the barrel’s lifespan and can also help preserve accuracy, as a hot barrel doesn’t produce groups as reliably tight as a cold barrel will.
