The Sig Sauer P320 is one of America’s favorite striker-fired handguns, available in several variants and configurations in different sizes. Depending on your variant, this surprisingly versatile handgun may even offer you a rail under the barrel as well as an optic-ready slide, which will come into focus in this article that will focus on Sig P320 upgrades you can make to improve the overall serviceability of your handgun. Here are some of the best of them.
A WML
That rail under the barrel is one of the most important features of your Sig P320 as it relates to expandability and P320 upgrades. Whereas many handguns don’t have any attachment points, your P320 comes factory-ready to mount Pic-compatible shooting accessories.
One of the most important ones we recommend is a weapon-mounted light, or WML, most of which can be installed in a matter of minutes to the rail under the P320’s slide.
Another one of the recommendations we’re going to make is to install night sights (more on that in a second) but the combo of a WML is better than just night sights, for numerous reasons.
While night sights will keep your position concealed and can dramatically increase your accuracy in the dark, a WML can be indispensable for making a positive ID in darkness, which is equally as crucial. Some even come with light and laser combos for an additional sighting option in addition to your sights or optic.
Plus, a WML can be detached from the handgun as needed and used for general utility applications requiring a light, which night sights cannot do. Take that for what it’s worth.
All in all, one of the best Sig P320 upgrades you can make is adding a WML to the rail under the slide.
A Red Dot Sight
Another great thing about the Sig P320 is that some come with a slide cut for an optic, so if you get one with a compatible footprint, you won’t need to do any serious customization work or milling to mount it. Mounting a red dot sight to a Sig P320 is effectively as easy as getting one compatible with your slide and screwing it on.
Of course, that doesn’t even touch on the justification for the upgrade, but it is the case that red dot sights offer plenty of advantages that iron sights don’t.
For one, they are free of parallax distortion and there is no sight radius, so even with hasty or somewhat sloppy aim, if you line up the dot, you should be able to connect with your target. As a result, red dot sights enable rapid, accurate firing and even faster follow up shots than iron sights, at least for most shooters and under most situations. They are also better in the dark.
And, the best part is that you can still use your iron sights for co-witness through the red dot sight, should the battery die, or if it’s too bright to see the dot, or if you just need to be doubly confident in your point of aim.
Night Sights
Most Sig P320 pistols come with “SIGlite” night sights, so this is one P320 upgrade you may actually not need to make. However, if you have one or bought a secondhand one without night sights, it’s definitely a good upgrade to make.
Now, if you’re thinking you don’t need SIG night sights because you already followed our suggestion and installed a weapon-mounted light on your rail, think again. This is a good upgrade to make in conjunction with that.
Night sights keep you concealed in the dark but enable more accurate shooting even in low light and complete darkness; a weapon-mounted light will give you the ability to identify the target; you can use either or both as needed.
Scrap That: Get a Sig Micro Conversion Kit
In the event you want to skip these Sig P320 upgrades and invest in a kit that will enable you to make all of them and then some, get a micro conversion kit compatible with your Sig.
A micro conversion kit, also known as an MCK, is a chassis-style platform that will enable you to fire your Sig P320 from the shoulder, more like a carbine than a handgun.
It will improve accuracy, absorb recoil, and offer you numerous expansion through tons of attachment points for P320 accessories. With a micro conversion kit, you can add a WML, night sights and a red dot sight if you like.
Plus, the extra weight of the MCK will absorb recoil and cut muzzle flip, so you won’t need to make other upgrades like adding a compensator or installing a heavier guide rod (which, although we didn’t cover them here, are also excellent P320 upgrades).
