Congratulations, you’ve gotten your first micro conversion kit (MCK) compatible with your favorite handgun. These chassis-like platforms will convert your handgun into a platform more akin to a carbine or even an SBR, and can, among other things:
- Improve handling
- Enhance accuracy even out past 100 yards
- Reduce muzzle jump
- Mitigate felt recoil
- Expand compatibility with MCK attachments
And, on top of that, require no modifications whatsoever to the handgun. That said, when you first get it home, you might justifiably want to know how to install your handgun and set it up.
Here’s what you need to know, taken right from a CAA MCK’s owner’s manual.
Installing Your Handgun
First and most importantly, make sure you drop your magazine from your handgun, visually and physically inspect the chamber, and ensure there is no live ammunition present when you are attempting to outfit your handgun with a micro conversion kit.
Next, check your muzzle shroud. CAA usually ships the muzzle shroud in the rear position for safety purposes. Make sure it is properly adjusted for the model of the handgun that you are going to insert. Also, it should go without saying that your handgun’s model should be stamped on the side of the MCK, so check for that.
After ensuring that your handgun’s model appears on the side of the MCK and that the two are compatible, if it is necessary, adjust the barrel slide using a 3mm Allen wrench on the two screws on the side Picatinny rails.
You do not need any tools to open the latch of the trapdoor at the base of the MCK. Using your fingers, pull down on the latch until it is in the fully extended position. It should open out to 90°.
Next, rack back the charging handle fully to the rear. Then, insert your handgun, muzzle forward and slightly angled upwards. And push up and inwards into the MCK. While doing so, make sure that the serrations on the handgun’s slide are in-line with the serrations on the MCK’s charging handle.
You will hear a click when the handgun has been properly inserted. Do not proceed until you are certain that the handgun has been properly inserted and is fully forward in the MCK.
The muzzle of the handgun must move forward until it is in the most forward position, completely against the muzzle shroud. Once again, do not proceed until you are certain that the handgun is properly inserted and seated.
Close the hatch door on the bottom of the micro conversion kit and push it forward until it clicks into place and locks on the locking pin. Do not attempt to operate your micro conversion kit unless you are certain that the locking pin has extended out and clicks into place.
At this point, your micro conversion kit should be ready to use.
Sighting in a Micro Conversion Kit
Arguably the biggest advantage you will reap with your new MCK is that you will be able to shoot more accurately and more confidently at intermediate ranges, even in excess of 100 yards.
To do so, you will need to sight-in your MCK. It is also important to note that you will need to re-zero your MCK every time you insert and remove the handgun.

The Tip of the Iceberg

Another one of the great selling points of your micro conversion kit is that it is expandable with a wide range of MCK accessories.
Your MCK should be ready, right out of the box, to attach an arm brace or side-folding stock, as well as a weapon-mounted light, thumb rests and other ergonomic accessories, and extra magazines.
