The AR-15 bolt carrier group (called the "BCG)") is the part of the rifle or pistol that's responsible for performing semiautomatic fire when the trigger is pulled, with a series of steps in this order: Allowing the firing pin to strike the primer on the chambered round. The AR15 BCG contains the gas key, along with the firing pin and extractor. It is central to rifle operation.
Which AR15 BCG coating is best?
Mil-spec AR15 BCGs are phosphate-coated, which is affordable and non-reflective. However, there are many advanced BCG coatings like nickel boron, nitride coatings and DLC which offer superior permanent dry lubricity, which means they require less liquid lubrication. This is beneficial because liquid lubricant traps particulate matter and fouling which can actually accelerate the deterioration of the bolt carrier group.
